Airbrush Tanning Appointment – Make Yours By Asking The Right Questions!

When surveyed, 97% of women said they feel skinner and look sexier with a tan.  That’s why trying to find the right tanning alternative when the sun is not shining can be a big deal — especially when you’re preparing for your big event.  This guide will help you with the A-Z’s of finding the right tanning salon in your area and preparing for your Airbrush Tan, to ensure that you’re results are as flawless as you’re expecting.

How To Find A Salon In Your Area

Nowadays, Reviews online can be a tremendous help when trying to make any decisions on visiting a new business.  Yelp is a fantastic resource and seems to be the most popular place to comment and rate new business experiences. Simply type in ‘Tanning Salons in (your area code)’ and multiple results should come up.

However, not ALL tanning salons speecialize in Custom Airbrush Tanning, and it’s crucial that you find one in your area that does. DO NOT go to a Nail Salon that also does ‘airbrush tanning’ and expect to get flawless Airbrush Tanning Results (especially if your event is very important to you and you want to look your best – as we all do!).

Ask The Right Questions When You Call Around

Call a few tanning salons in your area that stand out as having good reviews and ask the right questions! Below are the best questions to ask:

1. Do you specialize in Airbrush Tanning?
2. How Much Is A Single Session?
3. Do You Offer Packages, If So, How Many And How Much? (Usually The More You Buy Upfront, The Cheaper The Tans Per Session)
4. Do The Packages Expire If I Buy One?
5. What Type Of Payment Do You Take?
6. What Solution Do You Use?
7. Is there An Available Appointment On (The Day You Need) at (The Time You Need)?
8. Who Will Be The Airbrish Technician Working At That Time?
9. How Long Has That Technician Been Working As An Airbrush Tanning Technician?
10. (If You Are A Guy – Ask What Their Rules Are About Minimum Clothing, Most Salons Require You Wear Boxers/Bathing Suit… Girls Can Usually Go Nude If They Choose).

Have Wedding Photos You Can Be Proud Of

I know leopard prints are in — but not on your skin!

Your Wedding Day is a BIG DEAL. And I know it’s important to you that you look your best! Well, here are some great tips for you to keep in mind when planning your Wedding or Engagement Photos (And you’re scouting for a tan)!

Getting a Tan For Your Wedding – Should You do a Tanning bed or a Spray Tan? Here are my best tips coming from my experience in the tanning industry for 7 years!

Tip #1 -  Stay Away From Tanning Beds

I never would have thought of saying this years ago, but now I just can’t help but spread the word about the harms of UV radiation.  This is your Wedding Day — You don’t need to sacrifice your health in order to have the gorgeous glowing results that you want!

Tip #2 – Avoid Spray Tanning Booths and Machines

This day is far too important for you to risk the possibility of not having perfect, natural, flawless results.  A machine spray tan will require that you are in charge of making sure that you don’t have streaks or splotchy areas (and if it’s your first time — it’s very hard to avoid these problems as you are simply not used to the process).

Tip #3 – Book An Airbrush Tanning Appointment A Few Weeks Before Your Wedding Or Engagement Photos

This tip is not to test out whether you will like it or not — I assure you that you will!  However, you may need to ‘test out’ the level of darkness that best suites your preference.  Your initial appointment is always a great indication for whether you will want to go darker or lighter for your next appointment.

NOTE: I recommend using the same Airbrush Tanning Specialist both times. Request that they make note of the color and level of darkness that they used on your first session so you can tell them whether you want to go lighter or darker for your actual big day.

Tip #4 – Where Should You Go For Your Appointment?

Yelp is a great place to go to read reviews and find good tanning salons in your area. When calling around to book your appointment, be sure to ask who will be your specialist at the time of your appointment and how long they have been working there.  I would not get airbrush tanned by anyone who has not been doing the art for a minimum 6 months. This is YOUR big day! You want it to be stress free and perfect.

Tanning Beds Pose New Skin Danger

As you may have noticed, I have been doing lots of research on tanning beds and the harms that UV-rays can cause. As a sun lover myself, I can relate to you if you feel like you don’t want to listen to any of these warnings and articles.  However, this information is very important and needs your attention!

Tanning Beds Pose New Skin Danger

While it is common knowledge that tanning beds pose a risk for skin cancer, it seems that tanning beds are now being linked to a new danger, namely the worsening of certain skin conditions caused by drug allergies.

A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.

The patient in the study that developed TEN suffered severe blistering on the skin that received the UV light. The rash spread, and the patient suffered a significant blood pressure drop.

Pediatricians’ Group Backs Ban on Tanning Booth Use by Minors

More in the News…

Experts say ultraviolet-A rays in booths are 10 to 15 times higher than midday sun

MONDAY, Feb. 28 (HealthDay News) — In a new policy statement issued Monday, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) said it supports legislation that would bar children from using tanning beds or other artificial tanning devices.

Stricter regulations are currently being mulled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. An advisory panel to the FDA has already advocated barring minors from using tanning beds, or at least requiring parental consent. The FDA is not bound to follow the decisions of its advisory panels, but it usually does.

“Pediatricians should support and advocate for legislation to ban access to tanning parlors for children younger than 18 years,” the AAP said in its policy statement on ultraviolet radiation, published in the March issue of Pediatrics.

In the article, the AAP noted that “the intensity of ultraviolet-A radiation produced by large, powerful tanning units may be 10 to 15 times higher than that of the midday sun,” but nearly a quarter of white teenagers aged 13 to 19 reported at least one visit to a tanning facility, according to one survey.

The AAP also noted that other organizations, including the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Dermatology, already support such a ban.

And in a statement issued Friday, Dr. Thomas Rohrer, secretary of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), said his group “enthusiastically supports” the AAP’s advocacy for a ban on tanning bed use by minors.

“Many parents may not be aware that melanoma is the most common skin cancer in children, followed by basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas,” Rohrer said in a news release. “In addition, only six severe sunburns in a lifetime increase risk of melanoma by 50 percent.”

Apart from the tanning bed recommendation, the AAP also advised that parents begin to educate children about UV protection from an early age, especially kids at high risk for skin cancer, such as fair-skinned children who freckle or sunburn easily, or children from families with a history of melanoma. Wearing proper clothing and hats is also encouraged, as is applying sunscreen and wearing sunglasses. Infants younger than 6 months should be especially shielded from the sun, the AAP said.

Dr. Doris Day, a dermatologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and member of the ASDS, applauded the AAP’s move to support the tanning bed ban for minors.

“A review of seven studies found a statistically significant increase in the risk of melanoma in those who had been exposed to UV radiation from indoor tanning before the age of 35,” she noted, and “studies have demonstrated that exposure to UV radiation during indoor tanning damages the DNA in the skin cells.”

Day also said that “on an average day in the United States, more than 1 million people tan in tanning salons. Of the customers, nearly 70 percent are girls and women, primarily 16 to 29 years old.”

Pediatricians want minors banned from tanning salons

Another article that emphasizes the negative effects of tanning with UV rays. GIRLS! especially TEENS! Tanning is still an option for you — keep informed about the negative effects of UV radiation and know that there is a healthier alternative for you with Airbrush Tanning!

Tannon salon industry says ban would have unintended negative consequences.
March 03, 2011|by Cara Restelli, KY3 News

The American Academy of Pediatrics says tougher laws and regulations are needed to protect children from the risk of cancer associated with UV rays. The Academy says it supports a ban on artificial tanning among minors because public awareness of the risk of tanning is not optimal, overall compliance with sun protection is inconsistent, and melanoma rates continue to rise. The tanning industry says teen tan bans don’t work.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — If you spend a any time on a college campus, it’s not hard to find students who have used tanning salons for years.

“I tanned freshman, sophomore and junior year of high school,” said Missouri State University student Ashley Riley.

“I started tanning freshmen year of high school,” said Kirstie Thompson.

Many children as young as preteens do it — often times without parental consent.

“It seemed like the thing to do because all my friends were tanning,” said Riley.

Save yourself the hassle of the chance that you may get uneven and splotchy results!
